Read mode and edit mode
A dashboard has two modes: read mode and edit mode.
In read mode, you can review data, adjust the time filter, and interact with charts. Widgets cannot be moved, added, or configured here.
In edit mode, you can change the dashboard structurally: add, move, resize, configure, and delete widgets. Layout and data binding are defined there.
Open edit mode
Click Edit in the dashboard toolbar. Edit mode is available only to users with the Editor, Admin, or Owner role.
What happens when you open it
After you click Edit, the interface immediately switches visibly into edit mode. Drag, resize, and other write actions are released shortly afterward as soon as the editing session is active.
If other users are already editing the same dashboard, the UI still switches into edit mode. You also receive a note that multiple editors are currently active at the same time.
Save changes and leave
Use View to switch back to read mode. Open changes are saved automatically during that step. The visible surface closes immediately, while the actual save and release of the editing session runs right afterward.
Undo and redo
Undo and redo are available in edit mode. Use Cmd+Z on Mac or Ctrl+Z on Windows for undo, and Cmd+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y for redo. The history applies to the current editing session and resets after saving or discarding.
What you can do in edit mode
- Add, move, resize, and delete widgets
