What comparison periods do
Comparison periods place a reference value next to the current period. This lets you see at a glance whether a metric improved or worsened. Zweigen currently supports comparison in KPI widgets and in chart widgets for line, bar/column, radar, pie, doughnut, and polar area.
Available comparison options
- Previous period - the equally long period directly before the selected range. For "Last month", the previous period is the month before that.
- Previous year - the same period in the past year. For "This month", that means the same month one year earlier.
Enable a comparison
- Open the time filter in the dashboard toolbar.
- Enable Comparison.
- Choose Previous period or Previous year.
- Confirm the selection. All compatible widgets now show the comparison value.
Practical use
Month vs. previous month: Choose "This month" as the time range and enable comparison with the previous period. KPI widgets then show delta value and percentage change.
Month vs. previous year: Choose "This month" and compare it with the previous year. This is useful for seasonal products or industries where year-over-year comparison is more meaningful than month-over-month comparison.
Recommended starting point
Start with KPI widgets and line charts first. They make delta, direction, and trend easiest to read. Use radar, pie, doughnut, and polar-area charts as supporting views when you want to explain distribution shifts or structural changes.
